Institute of Medicinal Materials in Nanjing Agricultural University was established in 2003, and was the first Chinese Materia Medica discipline which is entitled grant the master degree in all the agriculture and forestry universities in China. The program for Ph.D. candidates in the specialty of medicinal botany was set up in 2004.
Our institute has a faculty of 26 research members, including 11 professors, 10 associate professors, 4 lectures, and 1 experimentalist. Additionally, there are 15 adjunct research members in our institute.
In the past 5 years, we have hosted twenty national research projects (including 9 National Natural Science Foundation of China), twenty-one provincial research projects, and eighteen enterprise cooperation projects. We have published two academic monographs, more than 230 articles including 26 SCI articles which were published in PLoS ONE, Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, Pharmaceutical Biology, Nordic Journal of Botany, Acta Physiologiae Plantarum etc. In addition, we have won 2 provincial awards and 15 National invention patent licenses.
Based on the advantage of Nanjing Agricultural University in agronomy and life sciences, our major research direction is listed as follows, (1) Germplasm resource evaluation and innovation of medicinal plant; (2) Resource chemistry of Traditional Chinese Medicine; (3) Safety of medicinal materials and monitoring; (4) Cultivation and physiology of Medicinal plant; (5) Introduction of medicinal plant and animal
Our institute aims to provide medicinal materials characterized by high-yield, high-quality, and safety, for pharmacy enterprises of traditional Chinese medicine. In recent years, we have had marked progress in the germplasm resource collection and evalution, standardized cultivation of medicinal plants and animals such as Chrysanthemum, Prunella vulgaris L, and leech, and solved the problem of raw material supply in several pharmacy enterprises of traditional Chinese medicine, e.g, Tasly Group, Nanjing Medical Group CO.,LTD, Hebei Yiling Pharmaceutical Group, Guangzhou Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd.
